Mini Munchkins

We will be holding an orientation session for the Mini Munchkin division on Saturday February 25th from 10am – 11am.  This session will be held at our game field; Hoffmantown Athletic Field. Attendance is recommended but not required.  Children are welcome to attend with you but also not required to be there.  Demonstrations of the various skills the kids will learn throughout the season along with explanations of our expectations will be covered.  Uniforms will be distributed at this time as well ONLY to kids registered in the Mini Munchkin division.  We will not distribute to individual players in any of the older divisions no matter how nicely you ask even if you attempt to bribe me with a raspberry white mocha from Starbucks…..but you could try…..if you really wanted to that is.....bribes don’t work on me…..most of the time.

The mini munchkin program is specifically for three year old monkeys.  This division will not play a league format.  These players will be assigned to a specific one hour block of time each Saturday at our game field.  During this time PSA instructors will set up a variety of soccer oriented games, including 3v3, to teach the kids how to play.  The objective for this division is significantly different from our regular league play format.  Our objectives in order of priority are as follows:

  1. Teach each of the children to love the sport of soccer by creating an environment of learning that is extremely fun.
  2. Introduce the children to structured sports events.  Keeping the kids focused on the skill they are being taught as well as functioning as part of a group is a couple of examples of this.
  3. Introduce the children to the basic skills of soccer.  We will not concentrate on having the children meet a specific requirement of motor skills, ball handling skills or team dynamics.  A general understanding of these things is more realistic.
  4. Introduce the children to the basic rules of soccer (no hands, no pushing, how to restart play when the ball has gone out of bounds, etc).

Our expectation is to have all of the children in this division familiar and comfortable with the sport of soccer and absolutely love it.  Parental involvement is not required during our sessions on Saturdays but we highly encourage it.  Parents are welcome to participate with their respective monkeys or simply cheer and provide fluid support (entering or exiting).

Due to a fire in the shopping center where the House of Soccer is located, we will be holding our registration at their temporary location which is on the NW corner of Eubank and Candelaria.

The House of Soccer is full of excellent deals on gear for you and/or your monkeys.  Their beginners kits (cleats, shin guards and a ball) start below $35 and are upgradeable to better kits with some of the top of the line equipment.  If you decide to register online or by US Mail then please remember that you are still eligible for their sweet deals.

Parking and Trash

The parking situation was perhaps the best ever last season.  Keep up the great work!  Please always be considerate and respectful of the people that live around the parks we use.
There has been an over abundance of trash to clean up at the end of each game day.  If you see any left on the sideline of your game please pick it up even if it belonged to a teammate and not your family.  Everything that is left lying about will blow into the yards of the surrounding houses.
